Progress

The K’s are both doing well!  Karsyn is cruising with her CPAP of 6 and will hopefully switch to canula on Monday.  The neurosurgeon came by today and said her head looked great and he didn’t see a need to tap today.  A lot of times right after they put in a reservoir they have to tap it every other day and sometimes every day.  Karsyn has had hers tapped once in almost a week – so we’re pretty excited about that!  Of course she could need to be tapped again in the next week or so, but at least it’s not every other day! 

Kaden is trucking along!!  He’s doing great!  He has started bottle feeding.  They are trying twice a day.  The first time they tried it he took 10 cc’s, the second time 15 cc’s, and this morning, the third time he took 22 cc’s.  Considering his feeds are only 38 cc’s right now we think he’s doing great!  He was even able to nurse the last few days and he has done great!  This is the last big hurdle Kaden has to face.  He needs to make his way to 8 feedings a day and then show us he can tell us how much he needs for each feeding and still gain weight.  In utero babies don’t get the suck/swallow reflex until 34 weeks.  Tomorrow will be 34 weeks so we’re hopeful that considering he’s already doing so well that he’ll cruise through this and come home to hang out with us!  He will more than likely be moved to level II tomorrow.  It’s sad b/c the K’s will be split up again, but level II nurses are very focused on what needs to happen to get babies home….so we’re excited about that!!
