Snip Snip

Yes, the long awaited secret activity from our time at Grandanny and Nana's house. I really didn't mean to wait this long to post it. I'm sure you're all dying in suspense!!!

Brady got his 1st haircut!!!

Now, I know most of you are thinking...but your child has no hair! Well, you're right. However, he was beginning to accumulate some pretty shaggy curls in the back. I thought okay, we'll go in she'll snip twice and talk about me behind my back when I leave for bringing in a child with no hair. BUT I was wrong, there was actually a lot of hair to cut and once it was evened out and shaped up he is actually beginning to get some pretty thick hair! She also trimmed off the "fuzzies" from the top, so maybe, just maybe the top will catch up with the back!!! If not there's nothing wrong with a mullet right?

Before...see the curls?
Brady in his rocket ship getting ready for his trim!
Mom, aprons are for girls.
snip snip...he was so good during the cut. Even still I don't know how they do it...hitting a moving target with scissors makes my stomach hurt!
After! Look at my handsome little boy! He looks so much older with his haircut!
So...sorry for the posting delay! Hope you guys are as excited as I was about Brady's first haircut!!!!!!!!

I've got the power!

YEA! We have power. Kaufman girls...who does my blog title remind you of? Yes you need to sing it to figure it out!
Our power was restored Wednesday night at about 7:30. Yes that means we were without power for 11 days. Yes that means that we were out of our house for exactly 2 weeks. I have never been so glad to sleep in my own bed in my entire life!!!! So, a little recap of the past two weeks......
Wednesday, September 10th - we head to Dallas to Nana and Grandanny's to escape Ike.
Wednesday, September 17th - I get word that I have to work Friday morning (just one day to assess damage to the district technology), so we head back to Grandma's house...she has power!
Friday, September 19th - Grandma loses power, so we head to the Simonds!
Wednesday, September 24th @ 7:30 we head home to POWER!
It's been stressful, tiring, and fun! A very special thank you to all our friends and family that opened their homes to the nomadic Brewers! We really did have a good time, and Brady was looking for Cooper Thursday morning when he woke up! It's so nice to have friends and family that you know you can turn to in difficult times.
I ran out of space on my memory card so I don't have many pics..well any really...from our time with the Simonds, BUT Brady did finger paint for the first time!! Here's his masterpiece!

beautiful isn't it!!! It's being proudly displayed on our refrigerator. I wish I had a picture of his face...it had more paint on it that the picture does!

And we've had plenty of time to perfect our walking skills. He's been "walking" for over a month, but it used to be a lot of crawling mixed with a little walking. Well, not anymore. Watch out world Brady's mobile!!! It's so cute to watch him as he navigates around his world!

We're still here

I promise!! We are still with out power...10 days and counting....but we're still here!! We are staying with our AWESOME friends the Simonds. They have so graciously opened their home to us and Cooper and Brady are having a great time playing. It has definitely made the "we've been away from home for 2 weeks" transition much easier on Brady to have a room full of new and exciting toys to play with! And Mommy and Mrs. Shannon are having a blast being roommates AGAIN! Our husbands might be getting a little annoyed at our grabbing our blankets, hanging out on the couch and laughing until we hurt....ahhhh just like the old days!!!
I promise to update with pictures as soon as we get power and I can load my pics on to my computer. We've had lots of fun adventures and have a lot to tell you about!!!

go for a "walk" in the neighborhood
double fist your water and milk cups!
swim with your puppies
play with your friends Abbie and Anna Claire Meet your cousins new puppy...Captain Rex!Play catch with Nana and Grandanny
meet a bear with Grandanny at the Bass Pro Shop
Watch daddy meet a bear at bass pro shop!

Play at the playground in the galleria

AND...play with your friends Abbie and Anna Claire...again!
Obviously we've had no trouble finding things to do with our free time!!

We've heard from Jason (who is not an evacuee!) that our house is fine. Of course we have a lot of tree and shrubbery damage, but all in all we're VERY lucky. We have several friends and family members that weren't as lucky so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We're still at Grandanny and Nana's house and have no immediate plans to return. We just wake up every morning, call to see if we have power and take it from there! Our school has canceled classes indefinitely......so, we'll keep you posted. One of our "activities" this week is a very special one so it will be a post in and of itself....so stay tuned!

Take a Hike IKE

Yes, hurricane IKE planned an unexpected trip to Dallas for the Brewer's! Wasn't that nice of him! If only Ike would use his debit card to buy the gas for the trip!!
Our house is in a fairly safe area, and depending on where he hits we shouldn't sustain any MAJOR damage, but the thought of having Brady in a house without power was not at all appealing! You know, you can only eat so many Vienna sausages and fruit cups before a 1 year old becomes cranky!
So, we packed (quickly) on Wednesday night and left the Houston area about 7:00. Brady slept the whole way and we made it to Dallas by 11:30! It's so hard to pack up and leave for a storm...this is only my second time to have to do it, but having limited space and having to decide what is most valuable to you then walking out the door and leaving so much behind...kind gives you a sick feeling in your stomach. BUT, they're things...I have the most important things in my life, Brady and my pink blanket Jeff!
We just wanted all of our readers (both of you!) to know we're safe and anxiously watching Ike as he makes a beeline for our area. You know, hurricanes bring out the worst in people....it is sooo wrong to hope and pray that a major catastrophic storms moves into another area....to threaten other people and their property...but we do it. So...I guess I'll be praying that Ike just magically disappears!
I'll post pictures of our adventures at Nana and Grandanny's a little later...for now, be safe!

Where's Brady's Snack???

Brady is very into putting things into containers and then taking things out. Containers of any kind. He loads up his dump truck with his blocks, pushes them across the room and then takes them out. He puts the shapes into the shape sorter and then takes them all out. His favorite game right now is to hide his snack bowl. The other day I came into the living room and he was lifting up the seat on his fire truck push toy. He opened it, put his snack bowl in, closed it back, pushed it a few steps, opened it, ate some of his snack...you get the picture. I guess he thought Daddy was going to steal his snack! He was protecting his valuables!!

nothing going on here...just hanging out...

there you are snack...let me just grab a little bite

NO DADDY..it's mine!

Brady got a precious rocking chair from Aunt Julie for his birthday. What a great place to relax and read a few books, or watch a few cartoons!! Thank you Cole's for Brady's chair...he LOVES it!

The Cow say's Moooo
look at this daddy
Brady got a new DVD that I think daddy is actually more excited about...the full first season of The Smurfs!! Brady isn't really into TV, he doesn't like to sit still that long! This was one of the only instances we caught him actually watching it but I'm sure he'll come around! Daddy says all little boy's love the smurfs...and he has all the little action figures to prove it!!!

Phases

Being a mom is the most amazing thing in the world.....but with the amazing comes the occasional frustration. Brady is going through what I'm hoping and praying is a phase complicated even more by teething. The last 2 weeks have been pretty rough. Lots and lots of crying. He cries if we put him down, he cries when we pick him up, he cries if we don't sit beside him while he's eating, he cries if we do sit beside him while he's eating.....get the picture??
I've been told this is the age where they begin to test you, so my original thought was "okay, let him cry". However when your child is crying as if his leg was just severed, that's easier said than done. What if he's really sick? What if his molars hurt him that much? WHAT'S THE ANSWER????
Poor baby, it breaks my heart to think that something is hurting him, but it will break my heart even more if he's just playing me!!! Okay....just needed to vent a little! If any of you mom's out there have any advice just let me know!!!

While I know my ranting makes it seem as if the Brewer's have been doing nothing but holding a crying baby, that isn't exactly true! (occasional exaggeration makes for a more interesting blog right?!?!?) My sister and I took a last minute trip to Dallas for Labor Day. I didn't take many pictures, but we had a great time, and got some much needed Grandanny, Nana, and cousin bonding time! Here are the few pictures I do have!

The munchkins playing in the booth at Dickey's while the Mommy's eat lunch!

Wow Hannah, it sure looks like fun out there doesn't it?

One day we'll be big like Jacob Brady.....one day.
